Cheezer & Weezer

Cheezer and Weezer are another pair of ferrets that came to the Sanctuary because of abuse in their former home. Animal Control called Cathy and told her that they had two more babies who needed to be rescued and that they came from an abusive home where the man had been beating the woman for at least a year. One night he threw one of her ferrets across the room during an argument. After that the couple broke up and the woman was relocated but couldn't have pets in her new home.

Both Cheezer and Weezer were biters when they came to the Sanctuary. Cheezer's attitude was "Please don't hurt me..." and Weezer's attitude was  "You come near me and I'll HURT you..." These two have gone through a lot and have taken much love and understanding.

Cheezer still walks with a slight limp. He no longer bites and has become a cuddler. Weezer is still pretty bitter towards all humans but she is improving slowly.

UPDATE: November 9th, 2006

Cheezer became insulinomic about 6 months ago and was put on a low dose of prednisolone. It has been working well and he is now on meds for life. He chose to split from Funlovers group and has joined the others on the meds wall. He sleeps with Duke (who left the Magnificent 7 group last year) and they get along famously.

Weezer is still with the last of the origional Funlovers group, which was 14 in number, split between two cages--and is now down to four...It has been many years. She snuggles now and doesn`t "machine gun" bite anymore. (She still can`t be trusted with strangers and still has little use for men, but she has mellowed some.) I am the only one she trusts. She is old now. Her fur is thinning. We are suspecting she may be going adrenal.

More later.
