Dallas
June 16th, 2008
About a year ago, Dallas came home to die. He had lost an alarming amount of weight, was producing black, tarry poo, and had sparse, wirey fur and a rat tail. He had no appetite & no energy.
We gave Dallas fluids twice a day, put him on special feedings, gave B complex injections, and treated him for ulcers. He began to come around, a bit. His appetite improved, his energy level improved, his fur filled in, and he got a nice, bushy tail !
He played with the Karagas group after they lost Zak. They all got along famously! One day when the group was through playing, Dallas returned to the Karagas cage, instead of his own. He has remained there, ever since.
The Karagas kids range in age from nearly four, to nearly eight. We think Dallas is between 5 & 6 years old. He fits right in. Often, all four can be found in one hammy. It`s as if he has always been in that group.
Seeing Dallas today, one would never guess how sick he was. He loves the group--and they love him too. He is truly happy & well-adjusted, and feels great!!
More later.
