Ellen's Crew
Ron, Marshie, Stinky, Bandit, Nutsy, and Dukie
Cathy has cared for these six since February 10th, 2002, when her friend Ellen delivered her human child 10 weeks premature. Ellen was being run ragged, driving to and from the hospital twice a day and caring for her other three children and husband. She brought her babies to the Sanctuary for a "vacation" so that they would get the special attention and time out of the cage that they deserved.
UPDATE: June 2002
Ellen's preemie baby had RSV and asthma as well. She felt that she wasn't able to give the ferret crew the proper care and time that they needed. For this reason and because they were so happy and well-adjusted here, she decided to surrender them to the Sanctuary. Three of the six are on medications for life. They are a great group and will have a loving forever home here at the sanctuary. Ellen's six are Ron, Marshie, Stinky, Bandit, Nutsy, and Dukie.

UPDATE (by Zoo): March 26th, 2003
We lost Dukie this morning. It was his heart. Was quite a shocker as he was the healthiest looking one in Ellen`s crew. He was nearly gone by the time we got to the vet. Dukie was such a sweet boy. We had a wonderful 13 months together. We will miss him so much.
UPDATE: July 2003
Last month we lost sweet Bandit. Bandit had become nearly bald with adrenal gland disease and had a lupron shot on May 29th, with 10 others. He died of lymphoma before he ever got a chance to see the results.
This month we lost Ron to the same dreaded disease. (Ron had lost all his fur too from the adrenal, but it was the lymphoma that actually took him.) Both died peacefully at home and will be deeply missed.
UPDATE: October 2003
All three of Ellen`s remaining babies now have adrenal gland disease. Stinky (7 years old) was already bald when she joined us, but now Nutsy and Marshie are also showing signs. They will be getting lupron shots next month.
