Ermie & Sue

Ermie, July 29th, 2004
July 29th, 2004
We took in two little girls today--victims of severe neglect. Each weighs under a pound. Because we don`t know their names, we have named the little DEW Ermie and the little chocolate Sue.
A young guy swiped them from someone he knew. They were being starved... He called the authorities. (There are other animals there too). He then called the local vet to ask where he could take them. We were the next call...
I have volunteered to be a witness as to the condition they were in when surrendered to us. Pictures won`t describe how they feel in your hands---just fragile little bones...
The longer I do this, the more I become disgusted with my fellow man. Is there any justice in this world??? I wish the person who did this would be put behind bars with no food or water for an extended length of time.
Please put in a prayer to the "Great Ferret" that they make it.
Love, Zoo
UPDATE: March 30, 2005
Although Sue LOOKED worse, Ermie was the sickest. Both got fluids for several days and both were put on "soup". Poor Ermie was grinding her teeth for nearly a month. She was treated for ulcers and began to thrive after the first couple weeks. Both began to eat kibble and put on weight.
Ermie and Sue absolutely LOVE running the room! They integrated into the Sweet group after quarantine was up--and there they remain. Sue is not good about her bathroom habits--Ermie is. (That`s OK, Sue--We`re glad you`re alive!!!)
Sue likes toes. Ermie is indifferent about them. Both are very playful. Ermie grew an especially beautiful coat when the season changed. Proper nutrition is so important!!!
The young man who brought them here never called again---nor were we called to testify against the negligent former owner. Our guess is that perhaps they were friends and he didn`t want to stir up too much dust... At any rate, Ermie and Sue are sure two happy campers NOW!!!
UPDATE: September 23rd, 2006
Ermie went adrenal right after our last update. She also had insulinoma and lymphoma. Ermie was terminal, but nobody would have known except for the drastic weight loss at the end. She still played hard, hid her toys, and loved her soup.
Early on the morning of August 23rd, 2006, she left us in her sleep. How beautiful to be able to live life to its fullest right up until the end.
Another goodbye... Another grave to dig... Sometimes this gets pretty hard....
Love, Zoo
ps--Sue is doing all right. She has a good group to comfort her.
