Jezebel

Today, February 24th, 2005, we took in a little sable girl named Jezebel. She does not live up to this name. She is very sweet, pitifully thin weighing only 15 ounces. She seems to love everybody so we do not suspect abuse--however, she is very hungry for attention. Her college student mommy couldn`t have her in the apartment when she moved. The little brother had been taking care of her----sometimes...The dad didn`t like her but they wanted her to be somewhere she`d be happy. The house reeked heavily of cigarette smoke. The mom and dad were both smoking as we talked and the smoke just hung in the air. The poor little ferret was subjected to breathing that for the (supposed) two years of her life. Her nails were really long and spikey. Her fur is very coarse and she is showing first signs of adrenal disease.

Tonight she`s in a quarantine cage in the kitchen. She has a warm, soft , clean bedding. She`s had a manicure and a bath. She has full bowls of food and water. She is alert and curious, which is a good sign. I`m waiting for her to make me a present so I can test it! I`ll keep you posted.

UPDATE:
Jezebel has been with us for a week. She is up to a pound now and eating like there is no tomorrow! Many people do not realize that ferrets need to be free fed (have food available, 24-7). We suspect maybe she was fed once or twice a day.

Her first two fecals were negative. She is allowed to run in the bathroom and hallway, for now---but I can hardly wait until she is out of quarantine. I bet she`ll LOVE the room!!!

More later!

Up to one pound!!!!

UPDATE: March 31st, 2005

Jezebel is doing wonderfully! She is now a respectable weight. She will be getting her first lupron shot this week.

We have a current picture, but the flash made her color appear lighter than it really is.

More later!

UPDATE: November 6th, 2006

Jezebel became adrenal last year and got her first lupron shot. She did very well until a few months ago then symptoms re-surfaced. She just got another depot last month (thanks, SOS!!!) and is doing very well once more. Her coat has begun to grow back and the insane itchiness has stopped. She`s playing like new. It is always such a joy when they respond like this!!! More later!
