Rick's Group
(Bullitt, Ezra, Alcatraz, Grimly, & Simon)

December 8th, 2007

On December 4th, 2007, we got an email from a man in trouble. Due to life changes, he had been forced to move in with his brother--and the landlady would not permit the ferrets to come along.

The ferrets were kept at his parents` house for a couple weeks, but they too did not want ferrets at their house.

He contacted a nearby ferret shelter, who could not guarantee that the bonded four would stay together if she adopted them out----but she gave them our number. (We have a good working relationship with several out of state shelters and have become friends with many of them.)

Today, December 8, 2007, Bullitt, Ezra, Alcatraz, and Grimly joined the family at Zoo`s Ferret Sanctuary. They have been very loved and well-cared for.

The former dad drove two hours to our place so his babies could stay together. He has the comfort of knowing they`ll be loved and he can return to visit them. He and his girlfriend are willing to make the trip once or twice a month to volunteer.

Grimly is approximately 3 1/2 years old. He had adrenal surgery 1 1/2 months ago and is beginning to re-grow his fur. The former dad rescued Grimly and his (approximately 3 1/2 yr. old ) cagemate Alcatraz from a pet store awhile back.

Ezra & Bullitt are about 1 1/2 years old and appear to be in good health.

Pictures coming soon!

He looks tiny here, but he's really a big boy!

UPDATE: June 23rd, 2008

About four months after the group came in, Grimly began to go adrenal again. Rather than put him through another surgery, we opted for lupron. He is doing beautifully on the drug. It`s non-invasive, he feels great, & his coat is incredible.

All the others are doing wonderfully too.

Rick & Jen made the drive last night, to see their furkids again. We are so happy they have remained in these babies` lives. It`s obvious how much they love them. At this point, we have really become friends. I care very much for these good people, & I look forward to our next visit. I wish they lived closer.

More later!

UPDATE: September 19th, 2008

We lost Alcatraz unexpectedly tonight. He suffered a complete urinary blockage. There was a walnut-sized mass in his abdomen, and he could not be fixed. We had to let him go.

I want to thank Rick for staying in his kids` lives. Rick, I emailed my sympathy to you--and YOU comforted ME. (He really was special, wasn`t he...)

The rest of the group is doing well--partly because they have integrated into the Star Wars group, & have many others to focus on, right now. Ezra has dropped some weight though. We`ll have to watch her.

More later.
