Shickadance & Angel
May 8th, 2008
Shickadance & Angel were brought to us last night by a student who didn`t have the time for them. Apparently, the girl`s stepdad found our website, & talked the girl into calling us.
Both ferrets had long, spikey nails, and earmites. Both had been fed cat & dog food. They seemed starved for attention. They were so joyful to get out of the carrier, & be put into the hallway for observation. It was obvious neither had been out of the cage to play, in a very long time...
Shickadance is a taupey-colored champagne boy, somewhere between four & five years old. He`s very thin, & has the largest chordoma on his tail that I have ever seen. It`s the size of an egg! His coat is pretty thin. We`re not sure if this is due to improper nutrition, or if he`s going adrenal. Time will tell. He`s such a sweet little thing. The growth should NEVER have been allowed to get to this point. Everyone has their priorities, I guess...Shickadance will be going in for surgery this upcoming Monday--and he will never be neglected again.
Angel is a dark-eyed white boy, approximately two years old. He has more energy than Shickadance. His nails are trimmed now, he`s been treated for earmites, and with proper nutrition, he will be beautiful!

UPDATE: May 14th, 2008
Shickadance had his surgery two days ago, and is doing wonderfully. There are some photos if you click the "Surgery" tab on the nav bar. They are fascinating, but gross. I will post another picture here, after the gauze comes off.
Now that Shickadance`s crisis is over, we have had a little more time to get to know ANGEL. He is a dollbaby. Very smart. He understands what you are telling him, and behaves a lot like a dog! He follows us all around the quarantine room, trying to get us to play. He`s responding to proper nutrition, and has gained a little weight. His fur is a bit coarse, but that should improve with time. Things are good...
